Power Station: 32MW, organic rankine cycle (binary)
Wells: 4 x production wells, each 1500 – 1800m deep
Geothermal Reservoir: All geothermal fluid returned to the reservoir through existing reinjection wells
Transmission: Connects to Top Energy’s Ngāwhā Substation and 110kV line to Kaikohe
Investment: > $250m
Ngāwhā Generation Ltd is starting on the construction of a new geothermal power station on its land in Ngāwhā. The station, known as OEC5, will be similar in size and style to the OEC4 station which was commissioned in 2020.
Preparatory civil works began in August 2026, with completion expected in early-mid 2030.
Drilling and testing of the wells will occur in 2027, with construction of the power station, geothermal pipelines and transmission infrastructure due to start in mid-2028.
